About obsession, regret and fear of retirement, featuring a great late period Jack Nicholson performance. Tho it's quite dated & heavy handed in some ways but still worth watching. WebbTHE PLEDGE seems to come across as a filmmaking and acting exercise rather than a real story with real flesh and blood characters. Nicholson’s often detached performance doesn’t help. Furthermore, the movie plays on the tired old cliché that Christians who are vocal about their faith may really be dangerous fanatics, if not secret serial killers.
