One-half of patients typically have a viral prodrome, and most are moderate myopes. While MEWDS is mostly a unilateral process, bilateral cases of MEWDS have been described. WebMEWDS is self-limited and has an excellent prognosis, with most patients recovering full visual acuity and visual field over a period of one to two months. Very rarely, complications such as chorioretinal scarring and choroidal neovascularisation or progression to AZOOR (acute zonal occult outer retinopathy) can occur. References
