The Vertical Dimension of Occupational Segregation

Webapproach decomposes segregation into vertical and horizontal components (Blackburn and Jarman, 1997a, 1997b; Blackburn et al., 2001a). We illustrate the need for analysis of vertical segregation by exploring some surprising ﬁndings in two cross-national datasets provided by the ILO and the United Nations.
